What is inside a bean? Observation of a bean seed

Grades: 1st Grade

Student Instructions

You will need a large dried bean like Kidney bean or lima or pinto bean. First click the link and watch the video link Then with a grown ups help put your bean in some water overnight to soften it up. Wait a day or more if necessary. When it is soft take a look at the differents parts you saw in the video. First look at the seed coat and look at the hilum. Then carefully open it up and it should split in the middle for your to observe. After looking at all of the seed parts. draw a picture or take a picture of it and then use label tool or writing tools to label the parts you learned about. A Guide will be included in the slides.
