Fluency Reading - Lightning

Grades: 6th Grade
Subjects: English Language Arts

Student Instructions

It is important that you read fluently and with expression. By practicing these two features of reading, you give yourself the opportunity to improve yourself when reading a text aloud. Reading aloud also helps with your ability to comprehend (understand) a text. For this activity, you are going to read the text 'Lightning' multiple times. Once you are confident with the text, you are then going to record yourself reading aloud. Remember that you're reading to show FLUENCY - which means that you are clear, have a steady pace and use expression. Some things to look out for include: rushing, speaking to quietly and fumbling over words. You will need to practice multiple times so that you know the text really, REALLY well before you record. You will need to work with a partner, this is because you will need to record yourself on your iPad but have to read the text off your partner's iPad. You may need a couple of practice runs with your partner while you get use to this process. This activity will become a WEEKLY requirement during reading rotations, the only thing that will change each week is the text and *hopefully* your own fluency and expression.
