Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity guides second graders through an informational video about forces (pushes and pulls), motion, gravity, friction, and speed. Use the video page to watch together as a class or let students watch individually. Pages include short multimedia responses and three auto-graded drag-and-drop checks for understanding. Prep: gather classroom objects for optional hands-on demos (ball, toy car, small ramp, different surfaces like carpet and smooth table). A stopwatch or phone timer is helpful for the speed example. For open-ended items: High-quality answers to the "Think About It" prompt name a clear fact learned (for example, “Gravity pulls things down”) and include a specific question (for example, “Why do parachutes slow people down?”). For the "Show It" prompt, a strong response demonstrates cause and effect (shows or explains a push/pull and how it changed motion). Teachers can mark student multimedia responses as correct if they accurately describe or demonstrate the science idea, or incorrect if the response shows a clear misconception (e.g., stating that heavier objects always fall faster without noting air resistance).
