Student Instructions

Using three different nonfiction texts related to our Ocean Science unit, we will practice reading and taking notes, paying special attention to the text structure the author used. Remember, there are five main text structures most commonly used in nonfiction. Here's the Flocabulary video for review: https://www.flocabulary.com/unit/text-structure/ Username: panda2019 password: parkview Once we notice the text's structure, we can use Thinking Maps (graphic organizers) to take notes and focus in on the important parts of the text. Be sure to read the text more than once and use the highlighter tool to mark what information is important. The Thinking Map should only include information from the current text, not other books or your background knowledge.
