Aut1W1 Guided Reading Fluency lesson (Boy in the Tower)

Grades: 6th Grade
Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

1) We will review the genre for our upcoming class reader. 2) We will consider the setting for our upcoming class reader. We will pause to consider & discuss where else we have encountered the same setting and genre. 3) Next we will review vocabulary we will encounter in the first chapter. This is to ensure we understand the words and are able to read them fluently. Fluency involves reading at the right speed, with accuracy and with prosody. We will review these terms. 4) Then we will look at an extract from the first chapter and hear it read by an expert reader (class teacher). Our class teacher will help us mark on the text where short/longer pauses are added that improve prosody. 5) Finally, we will use the marked up text to chorally read the same modelled extract.
