Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity focuses on reading fluency and basic comprehension of an informational text about continents and climates. Use the reading fluency recording to hear each student's accuracy, pace, and expression. Pages 2–4 provide auto-graded checks of comprehension and vocabulary. Pages 5–6 invite longer responses and multimedia sharing. Prep: Have devices ready for voice or video recording if possible. For the multimedia activity, students can draw or take photos of maps, or record a short explanation. Quality open-ended answers: For the ParagraphQuestion, a high-quality answer explains why Mila feels different emotions and mentions she wants to help the world, uses at least 3–4 sentences, and refers to the map or continents. For the multimedia Show It, a high-quality response clearly shows or describes a map or a place and explains one way the student could help or learn more; students should speak clearly or label their drawing. Teachers can mark open responses as correct if students show understanding and attempt the task, or incorrect if the student’s response is off-topic or missing key ideas.
