Blending words

To help your child with their reading here is an instructional video to show you how we teach your child to read words at school. At the beginning of each Literacy session start with speed sounds. The goal is for your child to be able to say the sound as quickly as they can. Once they can read their sounds fast, they will be able to move onto blending words. If it takes your child a long time to recall the sound, this will stop them from being able to put more than one sound together to make a word. Next move onto the blending activity shown in the video. Repetition is what your child needs as they are learning to read. The best thing you can do is keep the process the same but change the content. With this blending activity you will be able to do the same steps each time and only change the word you are working on. We want to help your child continue to move forward in their sounds and reading and hope this is helpful. You are welcome to do this activity either instead of the Literacy activity assigned to your child from their class teacher or additional to it. It is up to you. Happy reading!
