Crossing the Atlantic took 2 weeks. First and Second Class passengers stayed in staterooms. 3rd class passengers, the largest number of people, crowded in the steerage, a large open space at the bottom of the boat. Assign your students a "Class" for this activity so they can compare the items they would take, and the experience they would have on the steamship.
