Student Instructions

Plants depend on insects to pollinate their flowers. Data is needed to find out if there are enough pollinating insects around. Go outside at a time when it is warm and sunny. Pick a plant with flowers to observe. You will need a timer or a watch so you can spend 10 minutes looking carefully at your plant. Use the recording sheet to make tallies every time you see an insect visiting your flower. ONLY count the insect if it actually LANDS on the flower. Don't forget to say what your flower looks like. You can drawing a picture or take a photo of it. check

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This is best done on a warm, sunny day. The data collected can be analyzed to see if there are enough native plants in the chosen area, and to see what pollinators visit them.
