Teachers, save “At-Home Reading Log for the Week of Marc…” to assign it to your class.

Reading Log for Week of March 30, 2020 *Third grade readers are expected to read at least 20 minutes a day, 5 to 7 days a week! My Goal for This Week: I will think about the MAIN IDEA and the PLOT as I read. I will be able to write about the MOST IMPORTANT THING that happened (or the most important thing I learned if reading nonfiction) in at least 2 complete sentences. Example Entries: 3/14/20 - The Story That Cannot Be Told by J. Kasper Kramer (25 minutes) Ileana was alone in the apartment when an "electrician" arrived unexpectedly. He convinced her to let him in and she got distracted as he went around the apartment. This was a big mistake, because now their apartment is bugged. 3/15/20 - The Story That Cannot Be Told by J. Kasper Kramer (30 minutes) The wind blew Ileana's stories around the room, so her father stopped to help her gather them. When he read some of her stories, he discovered that they could put Ileana in great danger. He burned her stories and she is extremely angry with her father.

Student Instructions

Time to FIRE UP for your daily "At Home Reading Adventure!" 1. Create a plan for how you are going to make daily reading a priority in your life this week! 2. As you read, think about the MAIN IDEA and PLOT. Ask yourself, what is the MOST IMPORTANT THING that happened in the story today? This will help you understand the story better. 3. After you finish reading, take a few minutes to log your book on your reading log. Make sure you type the book title, author and number of minutes you read. Type at least 2 sentences that tell the most important things that happened in the story. 4. Proofread your writing carefully. Check that you have used everything you know about good writing. ** Important Note: Readers who read 5-7 days for at least 20 minutes a day and complete the log correctly will be invited to a special reading celebration during lunch to enjoy a special treat and talk about the books they love!
