Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity introduces students to the Canada Food Guide and asks them to apply guidelines to real food choices. Use the pages in order. Page 3 and the Frame tasks let students show knowledge with multimedia. The partner activity uses simple classroom materials: paper, pencils, food magazines or printed food pictures, and a phone or tablet to take a photo or short video. High-quality answers for the open-ended paragraph should explain choices using Guide ideas (e.g., more vegetables, water, plant proteins) and give clear reasons. For the multimedia responses, look for accurate food sorting, clear explanation or demonstration, and evidence students used the Guide ideas. Grade open-ended items as correct if the student shows clear, relevant thinking that uses Guide concepts; incorrect if responses show misunderstanding or no connection to the Guide.
