Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity teaches 2nd graders to identify fractions as parts of a whole and to name numerator and denominator. Use the two-column recap slide first to set a friendly tone. Students practice matching vocabulary and matching fraction symbols with pictures. The coloring slide gives hands-on practice with equal parts. Prepare simple coloring tools (crayons, markers, or a digital draw tool) for the coloring page and partner tasks. For open-ended responses: a high-quality coloring response colors exactly the number of equal parts named by the fraction and leaves other parts uncolored. A strong partner recording explains numerator as the number of colored parts and denominator as the total equal parts. Grade open responses as correct if the student correctly shows the fraction in the picture and correctly says or labels numerator and denominator; mark incorrect if the student colors wrong parts or mixes up numerator/denominator. For the partner activity, students should show a photo, drawing or short voice/video explaining how they made the fraction and why the numerator and denominator match the drawing.
