This activity teaches 5th graders how to multiply fractions and how to divide by a fraction using the reciprocal. Start by reading the recap and reviewing vocabulary together. Use fraction strips, drawings, or area models when students need concrete support. Encourage students to show each step: multiply numerators, multiply denominators, then simplify. Use the partner activity materials: paper, pencils, colored pencils or crayons, and rulers for drawing. For the Show What You Know recording, students should explain their steps and show any drawings or calculations on screen. A high-quality answer shows a correct final answer in simplest form, a clear explanation of steps (including flipping the divisor for division), and a simple diagram or number-line/area model. A correct short answer shows the correct numeric result (simplified).
