Student Instructions

Write a historical recount about a famous archaeological find. Historical recounts retell a particular historical event and explain its significance using facts. Think: Which famous archaeological find are you going to research and retell? Think about an archaeological object or site that you are familiar with. This could be an artefact, a document, a monument or a lost city. Where and when did the discovery take place? Who was involved? What series of events led to the discovery? Why was the discovery significant? Plan: Plan your writing before you begin. Decide which facts you are going to include. Remember to include: • an orientation – What is the event? When and where did it happen? • a series of events – What was the time sequence of the event? • a conclusion – What is the historical significance of the event? Remember to use: • paragraphs • formal, factual and evaluative language. Remember to check: • spelling and punctuation • sentence structure.
