Student Instructions

Welcome to Genius Hour! Genius Hour is your time to spend exploring the things that interest you most. Most of the school day is spent doing things your teacher has planned for you, but Genius Hour is all about you. To get started, you need to come up with an idea to explore. You may take some time just exploring and looking for the perfect idea. You may already have an idea and be ready to start researching. This week is all about finding that perfect idea. You can use the template to brainstorm a list or you can create a simple t-chart in your journal. Make a list of things you love ❤ and things you hate 😒. Will the focus of your time be learning a new skill, solving a problem, exploring something that interests you, or... ? Caution- Don't choose a topic that you can easily find the answer to in one fast Google search. Ex. How long do blue whales get? This is too easy! How does the size of the blue whale's features (length, eyes, heart, mouth, etc.) compare with those of other whales? That's better! 1. Click on the link to watch the video and let Kid President inspire you to start exploring. 2. In your journal, brainstorm a list of at least 10 things you love and 10 things you hate, or use the template provided. 3. Circle your two favorite choices from each category. 4. Draw a star next to your favorite choice of all. 5. Start researching! Use your journal to record what you learn in your own words. 6. Complete the template or take a picture of your brainstorming list and upload it to seesaw.
