Which pencil measures up?

Grades: 1st Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

1. Watch the Monster Maths Squad video in the link below. We need to measure things to find out how long, tall or wide they are. People sometimes measure using a ruler or tape measure. Your parents might measure a window to get the right size curtains for it, or measure a room floor to get the right size carpet or rug. In P1 and P2, we use objects to measure things. The objects must all be the same size. In school, we measure using lots of things, including cubes and straws. Look at this video, measuring with paper clips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8o7n-A0SC0 Remember, when you measure with objects (non standard units) you need them to be - all the same size, starting at one end and ending at the other of the object you are measuring, have no gaps between them and not be overlapping. 2. Look at the template. Tap drawing to circle the pencil that is measured correctly. 3.Tap rec to explain why the pencil you selected is measured correctly. Hint: you can tell why the other pencils are measured incorrectly as part of your explanation. 4. Tap check to add to your journal.
