The EGBDF chant is spoken in a quarter, quarter, eighth eighth, quarter pattern while students touch the appropriate finger on their hand staff. When they get to the "lines" word, students place one arm (in a dabbing-type motion) horizontally by their noses. This reminds them that the line notes cut through the middle of the note (or in this case, their heads).
