The War of 1812 began when America was still a young nation. It is sometimes called the”Second War of Independence” as America was fighting Britain again. Explore this website—follow the order listed below (according to the tabs along the top) to learn more about the war and why it happened. Jot notes as you go along to remember people, places, and notable notes. 1. Overview—Read the Historical Overview of the War 2. Interactives—Visit all 4 in any order 3. Field Trips—Visit Fort McHenry and 1+ more site of the 4 listed here. 4. Resources—change the filters under “Grade” to say “Elementary.” Choose anything that looks interesting to you. During the last 15 minutes of class, take time to reflect on the website and the war: 1. Click on the add button. 2. Tap on the note tool. 3. Type your response. Make sure you give several thoughtful responses and many details. Use any notes you took. 4. Click on the check to submit to your journal.
