This activity teaches second graders how to write a short opinion letter using a simple template. Use the model letter on the writing page to show format: date on top, a greeting, a short body (2–4 sentences), a closing, and a signature. Remind students to use simple sentences and clear handwriting or a clear font if they type. For the partner activity, students only need pencils, paper, or a device to type and record a short video or voice message. When using the open-ended paragraph question, look for a correct response that follows the template: a date line, a greeting with the recipient's name, 2–4 clear sentences in the body that share one or two ideas about a book , and a closing with the student's name. High-quality answers use short complete sentences, correct placement of date/greeting/closing, and a readable signature. Provide gentle feedback on sentence clarity and format. Use the pair-and-share recording as evidence of collaborative revision and speaking skills.
