Who created Pikachu? Drag pikachu back to its original creator.
Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This Seesaw Activity was built for wider student access to a copyright lesson on citing sources, and original creators. It was built to accompany an opening whole class activity(Do Now) where students were challenged to find out who the original creator of Pikachu was. They were told to cite the source of their answer in MLA format. Students who tried to Google the answer might come across the linked sources in the activity, as they all contributed to the creation of Pikachu in some form. The learning goal of the lesson was that students can cite creator sources as a person, or group of people, and a link to the information that supports their claim. ANSWER: Atsuko Nishida is credited as the original designer and creator of Pikachu. I built this activity for a small group of students with special needs, so that they could share a check for understanding on an iPad with Seesaw, and so the students and I could look at some possible creators and sources without all the information that shows up on the search engine pages. This exercise could be mimicked with similar characters like Hello Kitty for example. One could probably also build a multiple choice question that could be graded on whether the student chose the correct creator. Hope it is helpful. Mr. Oskin
