Student Instructions
Using the information provided from the 9 weeks assessments. Use and
to record progress. Common note mistakes are:
• Misidentifying an atom based on subatomic particle data
• Misidentifying the charge of the nucleus and the electron cloud
• Not recognizing subatomic particles, charges, location, or how to use an element symbol to determine
these values
• Confusing mass number and atomic mass on element symbols
• Struggling to identify reactivity based on valence electrons
• Not recognizing the majority of the mass of an atom is in the nucleus and that the majority of the
volume is in the electron cloud
• Not understanding that groups are vertical and periods are horizontal
• Not recognizing the representative groups, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, and patterns of valence
electrons
• Struggling to identify the location of elements on the Periodic Table based on characteristics
