Matter is anything that takes up space, has mass, and properties you can observe and describe. Solids are a form of matter that has a definite shape and takes up a definite amount of space. Wooden blocks are solids.
Hands-on Activity
1. Click

2. Use slide 1 to prove that the solid block takes up space.
3. Use slide 2 to prove that the solid block has mass.
4. Use slide 3 to prove that the solid block has properties you can observe and describe.
