Coins In Your Home (Australian Coins)

Grades: 2nd Grade, 1st Grade, Kindergarten
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Look around your house for some coins. You may need to ask a parent for help. Your task today is to sort your coins into groups and work out how many you have of each type of coin. Do you have more gold coins or silver coins? Can you take a picture of your coins lined up like a graph? Record yourself telling your teacher all about the coins you have collected. On the second and third slides, there are some extra challenges you might like to complete. The first one is to count how much money you have in each group. Maybe you can work out how much you have altogether. The next challenge is to see if you can work out which coin is the OLDEST and which coin is the NEWEST. Tell your teacher how you know. If you do not have any coins, you can use the last slide to make a virtual pile of coins to complete this task.
