Sun Experiment

Grades: Pre-K, Kindergarten
Subjects: STEAM, Art, Science

Student Instructions

Let's use sunshine to do some experimenting! You will need a few different colors of construction paper, scissors and glue or tape. Choose a piece of construction paper to be your background. Use your scissors to cut out different shapes from the other colors of construction paper. Use a very small dab of glue or small piece of tape to stick the shapes onto your background paper. Once you have as many pieces stuck on the background as you wish, you are ready to start the experiment. Find a nice sunny window in your home. Place your paper against the window with the shapes next to the glass. You may want to use tape to hold it in place. Now for the hard part, the waiting! You will need to wait at least 7 days (one whole week) before you check on your experiment. After a week, take your paper out of the window and lift up the shapes you stuck on the background. What do you notice about the background paper? Look at both sides of your shapes. Do you notice any changes in the colors? Take a photo picture of your experiment and use the mic microphone to tell about what happened during your experiment. Use the check green check to post your work for me to see.
