Standards: Model with mathematics. (MP.4.), Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. (MP.1.), Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem. (1.OA.1.)

Student Instructions

1. Listen 👂or read the story problem. 2. Use the RDW strategy (Read, Draw, Write) to solve the problem. *Remember to draw a picture with labels, write an equation, and answer the question. 3. Tap the green check to turn in your work.

Students use their problem solving skills with this story problem, finding a missing part. Using the strategy, Read, Draw, Write (RDW) to saw how they know and help explain their thinking. Great visual opportunity and low reading skills will not hinder a students about to solve with the directions being read to them.
