Bullying stops in less than 10 seconds, 57% of the time when someone intervenes on behalf of the victim. It takes courage to be a voice against bullying at school and in your community. Kids can be the change if one person prevents or reduces the bullying they see. Being a buddy and using your voice is coming to the aid of another classmate or friend who is being bullied by showing them kindness. Being a buddy and using your voice against bullying does not happening overnight. It can start by being aware of the bullying behavior in your classroom, school and in your community and how it is affecting the lives of the victims being bullied. Being a buddy is able to see the pain and take action to prevent it from happening. To become a buddy and use your voice against bullying: Don’t laugh Don’t encourage the bully in any way Don’t participate Stay at a safe distance and help the person get away Don’t become an “audience” for the bully Reach out in friendship If you notice someone being isolated from others, invite them to join you Include the victim in some of your activities Tell a trusted adult, teacher or parent
