Grades: 1st Grade, Kindergarten
Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

Listen to the words on slide one. Then get ready to play! Use the eraser to scratch off buzz words. Read each word you scratch off as you play. You win the game if you scratch and reveal all 10 words before the 2 paint splats are uncovered! The game is over when 2 paint splats have been uncovered, or you have uncovered all 10 words. Use the microphone to read all the words you uncovered. If you forget a word, go back and listen to the words again on slide 1! You can play this game three times.....each slide is a new game. Beware, the paint splats and words are in new locations! Be sure to use the microphone and read your words each time you play. Just think of all the reading practice you are getting! Keep this game as a DRAFT until you have played and recorded your words for all 3 games. Good luck! Have fun!

If you use Fry as your sight word list, light green words are Fry words 11-20. The Fry Sight Words list is a more modern list of words than the Dolch list, and was extended to capture the most common 1,000 words. Dr. Edward Fry developed this expanded list in the 1950s (and updated it in 1980), based on the most common words to appear in reading materials used in Grades 3-9. Learning all 1,000 words in the Fry list would equip a child to read about 90% of the words in a typical book, newspaper, or website. The Fry words are listed by the frequency with which they occur and are often broken down into groups of 100. So the first 100 Fry words are the 100 most frequently occurring words in the English language. https://sightwords.com/sight-words/fry/ CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.C Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
