Grades: 7th Grade

Student Instructions

INTRODUCTION: Each element in the periodic table has its own characteristics and ways of behaving. In this activity, you will explore the ‘personality’ of a particular element by creating an audition video for a new television programme: Element Survivor. TASK: Working alone or in pairs, you will research your chemical element and then make an audition video of roughly five minutes in length. The clip should explain who you (as the element) are, what special characteristics you have and how these would help them to beat the competition. Do not forget to include: - Element name, element symbol, atomic number and mass number - Electron shell diagram - When was it discovered and how it got its name - Its physical state at room temperature - Its physical properties, e.g. colour, odour (smell), magnetism, radioactivity, etc. - Melting point and boiling point - Some daily uses of the element - Facts and characteristics that could help you be chosen for, or win, the show. DEADLINES: The videos are due November 5th
