Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity set helps students practice selecting appropriate metric units and converting between centimeters, meters, and kilometers. Use the Solve It pages to quickly assess student understanding of unit selection and conversion facts. The Match It and Sort It pages reinforce vocabulary and real-world reasoning. For Show It pages, allow students to use drawing or voice/video so you can hear their reasoning; provide rulers or meter tape for measuring practice if available. For the paragraph open-ended question, a high-quality answer explains why the chosen unit fits the situation, shows correct conversion steps, and uses clear units (e.g., "The classroom is about 7 m because it is longer than 100 cm and shorter than 1 km. 700 cm = 7 m."). For the multimedia Show It, look for labeled drawings or recordings that show correct measurements, conversion calculations, and an explanation (e.g., pointing to a drawing of a playground and showing 300 m = 0.3 km). Grade open responses as correct if student reasoning and calculations are accurate and the unit choice is appropriate; otherwise mark incorrect and give targeted feedback.
