Within Word: Sort 12 Final /k/ Sound Spelled -ck, -ke, or -k

Student Instructions

1. Tap add 2. Use label tool. Sort words into three categories (leave the heading area on top blank). Place words in the large sections. 3. Analyze the pattern - what do they have in common? 4. Type in the common pattern in each of the headings. 5. Use the mic and describe what you have noticed about each category? e.g.: What do you notice about words that end in -ck? What do they have in common? What do you notice about words that end in -ke? What do they have in common? What about words with double vowels? What do they have in common? Challenge: Can you think of other words for each category. Type them in the Comment area.

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This sort has an added level of complexity as it asks the students to figure out the phonics pattern. For younger students you should give them the sorting categories. Note: One syllable words with short vowel end in -ck, one syllable words with long vowels end in -ke, double oo end in -k.
