Reader's Workshop - Readers Group Books by the Lessons They Teach

Grades: Kindergarten
Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

Today I want to teach you that when you compare books, categories begin to form. You start to realize that books teach similar lessons. You can think, "How are these lessons the same?" to group books together. This lesson will have a couple of steps. Step 1: Log onto the Ulloa Storybook Project Google Classroom. Click on this link or type it into your URL: classroom.google.com Sign in with your email and password your teacher gave you. Click on the "Classwork" tab at the top. STEP 2: Look at the different categories/groups we put the books in. Think about why we chose to name the category by that name and why the books are in that category/group. STEP 3: Go to the "Social Emotional Learning Stories" category. Listen to at least two books from that section and think about the lesson you learned from those books. We put all of those books in that category because they all teach life lessons that we teachers think kids should learn. STEP 4: Go back to this activity in Seesaw. Look at the template. Sort the books into the two categories you think they should go in. STEP 5: Use the microphone tool to explain why you think those books go in that category.
