Student Instructions

Feeling bored and alone? Imagine what it's like in a zoo where there are no visitors allowed. We may be stuck indoors, but it doesn't mean we can't still travel the world! So join us on our first Year 6 Virtual Field Trip. The coach has been booked. Letters have gone home to parents. We have the first aid kit and the sick bucket. It's time to go! San Diego Zoo in California is a world famous zoo with animals from all over the world. So, make sure you have sensible shoes on and click the link below. You'll be taken to a page of links to live webcams of animals (except for the pandas who are prerecorded). Choose which order you want to visit the animals and head off to visit it 'live'. You can choose from - Baboons - Penguins - Pandas (not live as they have been sent back to China) - Polar Bears - Apes - Koalas - Giraffes - Butterflies - Elephants - Tigers - Owls - Condors Remember that just like any real zoo trip, not all animals will be keen to make an appearance. Some are easy to see, whilst some need a bit of time and patience. Penguins and elephants could be a good place to start. Once you have completed your field trip, it's time to complete your report on your day at the zoo. What did you see? Which animals were best and why? Who did you sit next to on the coach? What did you take for lunch and where did you eat it? ( Use the Zoo website to find out where you could have lunch). Just a quick warning - San Diego is 8 hours behind the UK, so if you go too early in the day, you probably won't see anything as the animals will be asleep. An afternoon/ early evening trip would be best. Buckle up and enjoy.
