Lunar New Year: ROUND IS A MOONCAKE & CREATE YOUR OWN CHINESE NEW YEAR COUPLET

Grades: 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, Kindergarten
Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

#1. ROUND IS A MOONCAKE Draw a picture of a holiday that you celebrate with your family. If you don't celebrate holidays, draw a picture of Chinese New Year traditions based on what you learned in the video. We learned about shapes in the book. Record yourself describing your drawing and name 1 round, 1 square, or 1 rectangle shape that you can find in your drawing. #2 CREATE YOUR OWN CHINESE NEW YEAR COUPLET In the red rectangles: write messages or draw pictures wishing good luck in 2021. On the door: draw a picture of a Lunar New Year tradition you learned about. Chinese New Year Couplets are red pieces of paper with wishes and poems written in Chinese characters in black or gold ink to share good luck in the new year. One piece of paper is placed on each side of the door, and sometimes a third piece of paper is placed on the top of the door. Characters are a way of writing that does not use the alphabet.
