Grades: 6th Grade, 5th Grade
Subjects: Writing

Student Instructions

This task is expected to take approximately 40minutes. Your goal is to ensure that your Debate segment follows a strong P.E.E.L structure and contains persuasive language. Using your debate speech draft, you will re-write your draft ensuring you follow a P.E.E.L structure. You will gather in your 'debate teams' and take turns in sharing your speech so far by reading it aloud and also sharing your screen so your peers can read along with you. You may ask yourselves these questions: - Do you have sentences that are far too long? - Does something not quite make sense? - Do you need to incorporate any persuasive techniques/devices? - Do you follow the PEEL structure? - Does your speech include you introducing yourself, the topic definition, space for rebuttal ... After you share your speech, provide 1 positive piece of feedback, and 1 constructive piece of feedback. Be mindful of your peers and the feedback you provide - we RISE by lifting OTHERS. Spend the rest of your session editing and re-drafting your speech. upload a picture of your "before" and "after" speech and provide a voice caption as a reflection about how you improved your work.
