This activity helps students practice metric conversions for length, mass, volume, area and time with scaffolded tasks: recap, vocabulary, matching, sorting, and both multiple-choice and short-answer assessments. Use the Transum units link for extra practice problems or as a class warm-up. For partner work, no special materials are needed beyond paper, pencil, and a classroom device for recording. High-quality open-ended answers explain the conversion factor used (e.g., why you multiply or divide by 1000), show clear steps or drawings for moving the decimal, and check the answer by reversing the conversion or using a second method. For the word-problem short answers, correct responses show the numerical result and the unit, and student work should include the conversion step(s).
