When you’re ready to add to your journal, click the green check Check. Family Why: Phonemic awareness is the foundation for early literacy development. It builds the skills needed for blending, reading, and writing development. We use phonemic awareness as adults when we read new words, quickly read through content, or guess at how words are pronounced.
