Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

Morphology is the study of words and their parts. Morphemes, like prefixes, suffixes and base words, are defined as the smallest meaningful units of meaning. The suffix 'ed' is used to signal that something happened in the past. When students are spelling words, they need to remember that for a past tense verb the sounds /d/, /t/, /ed/ at the end are spelled with the letters ed.
