Earth's Changing Surface 2A & 2B - How are Earth's materials similar and different?

Student Instructions

Lesson 2A 1. add the activity to your science journal. 2. Today you will make observations about the properties of two of Earth's materials. 3. Use the label tool to record observations you make about the materials on the recording sheet. 4. Use the drawing tool to mark a check or an X next to any properties that the two materials have in common. 5. Leave the "make a claim" box blank for this lesson. (Hint: We will use this box for the next lesson!) 6. Click draft Lesson 2B 1. Go back to your post from Lesson 2A to edit the activity. 2. Review your data from the Soil and Sand table. 3. In the bottom text box, make a claim about the soil and then make a claim about the sane. Be sure to include reasons based on your claim! 4. Click check to submit.

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

2A: Students complete the table, but leave the bottom "Make a Claim" box empty for the next lesson. They should mark with a check or X any data that they see that is similar in both materials before submitting their recording sheet. Students need to click draft so they can return to the activity for the next lesson later on. 2B: Students will "edit" their posts to add their claims at the bottom of the recording sheet. Optional: After the Teacher approves students' posts, children may go to 2-3 classmates' journal entries and, using the comment feature agree or disagree with other student claims (be sure the comment feature is enabled for students).
