Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity helps third graders practice reading an informational passage and distinguish between finite and infinite natural resources. Use the ReadingFluency recording to check students' accuracy, pace, and expression. For in-class use, consider pairing students for peer feedback before they record. No special materials are required, though a picture of solar panels or windmills can help discussions. For the paragraph question, a high-quality answer explains differences between finite and infinite resources, gives at least one clear example of each from the passage, and states why using infinite resources helps protect finite ones. For the multimedia prompt, a strong response includes a clear explanation (spoken or written) and uses a photo, drawing, or short video to show an example (like drawing a windmill or solar panel) and describes how it saves finite resources. Teachers can mark responses correct if they demonstrate understanding, include examples, and show reasoning or illustration tied to the passage.
