Candy Cane Experiment

Student Instructions

You will need 3 small candy canes, 3 bowls, cold water, warm water, and cooking oil to complete this experiment. The teacher can demonstrate, students can work in teams, or students can do this independently at home or school. 1. Open a candy cane. Use adjectives on Slide 1 to list the properties of the candy cane. 2. Get 3 bowls and put cold water in one, warm water in another, and cooking oil in the last one. 3. Fill in the hypothesis for each one. (your guess of what will happen). 4. Then put a candy cane in each bowl. Let them sit for 5 minutes.--You can watch the candy cane video while you wait. 5. After 5 minutes draw a picture of each and write down your observations. 6. On the last slide write a conclusion about what you learned from the experiment and if your hypotheses were correct. Click check when you are done.
