Student Instructions

0️⃣Work in pairs. ------> You may want to print a script before you continue. 1️⃣Roll the place value dice. 2️⃣Make the number using the stamps and your odometers. 3️⃣Say what the whole number is, and say what each place value is worth. 4️⃣Now, split up your number into two smaller numbers. 5️⃣Show the two numbers using stamps and your two odometers 6️⃣Say what these two numbers are. 7️⃣Say what number you would get if you combined the two numbers again. 8️⃣Click the add button. 9️⃣Add both of your names then press the check. 1️⃣0️⃣Repeat steps 1️⃣-7️⃣ while recording yourselves with the script. 1️⃣1️⃣Press the check until you can select both your names. 1️⃣2️⃣Press the check and you are done!

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

Educators, the odometers mentioned in this activity do not have to be used, but they are a useful tool to use throughout the year. If you and your class would like to make them, you can find a link to the activity here: https://bit.ly/2EIJvTq Also, we use Montessori stamps at school, but you can substitute these for MAB or your preferred concrete materials. Lastly, I use different coloured 10-sided dice to represent place values higher then 1000s and lower than 1s.
