The magnifying activity idea is from Kris Szajner. When working on a unit on insects or pollination, students can be introduced to the idea of hand pollination using the magnifying glass to reveal parts of the picture. When they uncover the whole picture they will be able to see what is really going on. This allows students to make their thinking visible by recording their initial thoughts and predictions, and then by sharing their final ideas once they have seen the whole image. It provides a good starting point for an interesting discussion on the decline of bees and the need for hand pollination in certain parts of the world.
