Student Instructions

Welcome to the wonderful world of CAD! In this lesson, we will learn about what CAD is, and how it is used by engineers and artists to produce products, create architecture, and design many amazing things. Watch the introductory video on CAD, add Tinkercad from the student portal, and draw a few 3D forms on paper in your sketchbook. Oh.... and as a bonus.... upload some of your favorite Minecraft builds on the last template for fun! What’s that about Minecraft in art? Well, you’ll have to watch the video to find out! We’ll be learning how Minecraft plays a role in CAD over the next few weeks! 1. Watch the video provided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3HvLX03gp0 2. Draw the 3D forms listed on the attached template. It is important to draw on paper with pencil. Required forms are: box, cylinder, roof, cone, rounded roof, pyramid, sphere, and half sphere. All examples of forms can be found in Tinkercad and on the attached template. 3. Download Tinkercad from the portal. Sign in with your code or google address. Your teacher will advise you of their preference. Ask them! 4. Attach your favorite Minecraft builds to the last page of the template! Vocabulary: CAD- Computer Aided Design, or Drawing. The use of computers to aid in creation, modification, analysis or optimization of design. 3D Form- A solid figure or an object or shape that has 3 dimensions- length, width, and height. 3D shapes have thickness and depth. Have fun! May the arts be with you! Mrs. Lukes
