Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity focuses on reading fluency and comprehension of an informational text about daily choices and waste. Use the reading fluency recording to check students’ pacing, phrasing, and accuracy. The comprehension pages include an auto-graded mix of question types; review any incorrect answers with students to find misunderstandings. For the open-ended tasks, ask students to explain their thinking and give examples. A high-quality paragraph answer names at least one reusable item, explains how it reduces waste, and uses at least one detail from the passage (for example, that single-use items end up in landfills or oceans). For the multimedia prompt, strong responses show a real example (photo or video) or a clear drawing and a short explanation (spoken or written) describing the item and how it helps reduce waste.
