Banksy is a modern and anonymous, street artist. His most famous mural is “Girl with Balloon.” Look carefully at the art work and think about the symbolism of the balloon. Is the child letting the balloon go on purpose? Did she give the balloon as a gift to the world? Is there hope that she might catch the balloon? In the midst of everything, like the balloon, we have had to let go of things, to stay safe and social distance. We are out of school. Restaurants are closed. People are home. Yet despite all of it, we still have hope. Banksy writes on his mural, “There is always hope.” First with a family member discuss what gives you hope? Think back to the above questions about the symbolism of the balloon, and what gives you hope. Next use the mural attached to type a response to what gives you hope. Then on a separate piece of paper draw a mural about hope (if you are stuck google murals of hope and the results will get your creativity flowing! Finally post your work to your journal
