Instructions for Pupils
Read this book two or three days in a row. By the third day, you should be very accurate and sound very fluent (reading smoothly, like talking).
Click on the picture of the title page to begin to read the book.
Read each page to your parent, babysitter, or an older sibling - if you get stuck on a word, try to make the sounds in the word - if you can’t work it out, your helper can tell you the word after you’ve had a try at it.
This story has the Maori word for gecko in it - ‘mokomoko’ (say “maw-kaw-maw-kaw” - maw and kaw rhyme with jaw).
After you read each page, your helper can ask you the questions at the bottom of each page and talk about those with you.
When you have read the book two or three times, do the activity template (with a recording
) so I can hear how you sound as you read!
OPTIONAL: follow-up task: choose one:
1. Do you have a cat or dog that likes to sleep in certain places? Make a
video to tell me all about it.
b) Design a cat bed for Puffin to sleep on. Create a
drawing (on here or on paper) and record yourself telling me about the special features of your cat bed. (
Upload a photo
of your design if you have drawn it on paper).
