Loose Parts Play

This is another free play activity....there is massive research into the benefits of free loose parts play and children development. So this may seem like a strange an pointless activity but please believe us this is a totally different activity through the eyes of a child! This is a good activity to have semi set up already......you could go on a walk and collect some items to use.....have the items sitting around in pots or baskets or even just thrown on the floor or table (please air caution if you have smaller children in the house!). I wouldn't call this an activity to your child as sometimes they feel there should be a purpose or and end product.....and there should not be! Allow your child to explore these items (safely) in any way they choose...this could range from art, to using the items as money in a pretend shop or as food in a pretend kitchen, some may begin to use smaller time to spell out letters, count the items, sort the items.......and the list is endless!! This really is one where you get to sit back and just observe exactly what your child is doing!!
