3.20 Mexican Folk Art - Alebrijes | Culture In Art | Part 2

Grades: 3rd Grade
Subjects: Art

Student Instructions

Hola Artistas! Today we will finish our Alebrijes! Last week we learned about the folk art that originated from Oaxaca, Mexico and is now made by many to this day. We also determined what animal to design in this style of art, by either choosing our favorite animal, an animal that we can relate to, or by the results from the "What Is My Animal Personality?" quiz from kidsworld.com. Today is the day we can finish our design using any art supplies we choose. 1. Watch the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGNGwaV6864 2. Take out the pencil drawing of the Alebrije. Before outlining, take a look at your animal and make sure there are designs and patterns on every part of the animal drawing. (Suggestion: Use different colored markers to outline.) 3. Color or paint the entire Alebrije with any art mediums of your choice. (Markers, crayons, colored pencils, gel pens, watercolors, tempera paint.) It can even be a mix of different mediums (Mixed Media). Just make sure your animal is as bright and beautiful as the artist it represents. :) 4. Don't forget to share your final masterpiece by taking a photo and sharing it with your art teacher on the first slide of the Seesaw template. BONUS (Optional): You will notice that I loved my Alebrije design so much that I decided to make a clay version of my monkey. If you have the time to make another version of your spirit animal, please share on the last slide of the Seesaw template. Have fun and MAY THE ARTS BE WITH YOU! Mr. Belonio
