Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity uses a short informational passage to build reading fluency and basic comprehension about continents and climates. Use the reading fluency recording to check students' accuracy, pace, and expression. For group work, display a simple world map and point to continents while students follow along. No special materials are required, but a printed world map or map image helps for the Show It drawing task. For the Paragraph question, a high-quality answer explains one idea from the passage and adds a short reason or example (two to three sentences). For the multimedia Show It, a strong response shows a clear map or labeled drawing and a short spoken or written explanation about where hot and cold places are and why. Look for correct use of words from the passage (continent, desert, ice, map) and clear connections to the text.
