Student Instructions

1. Listen to your teacher instruct on the long i phonics pattern of -igh and -y 2. Select voice to listen to the word dictated on pages 1 and 2, use the move tool to build the words. 3. pages 3: Read the words in the word bank then use the box to the left and record yourself reading the words. BONUS: Use the label tool in the box in the lower right and write a sentence using as many of the word from the word bank. 4. Need to finish later? Select draft If done, select check to save this to your journal.

This lesson complements Module 8, Week 2 Lesson 6 in HMH Into Reading for 1st grade. Teacher should explicitly teach trigraph -igh and -y pattern prior to giving this to students. Objectives: Learn the igh (a trigraph) and y vowel spellings for the long i sound. Language: Recognize sound-letter relationships and use them to decode words. Blend letter sounds and decode regularly spelled one-syllable words with igh (a trigraph) and y spellings for /ī/.
